Gender Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Training (Virtual and Onsite)
June 24, 2024 - June 28, 2024
Introduction
Gender-based violence is basically an umbrella term for any injurious act committed against a person based on socially ascribed (i.e. gender) differences between males and females. It includes acts that inflict physical, sexual, or mental harm or suffering, threats of such acts, coercion, and other deprivations of liberty. These acts can occur in public or in private spaces. Common forms of GBV include sexual violence (rape, attempted rape, unwanted touching, sexual exploitation, and sexual harassment), intimate partner violence (also referred to as domestic violence, including physical, emotional, sexual, and economic abuse), forced and early marriage and female genital mutilation. Gender-based violence is recognized as a widespread international public health and human rights issue.
Several things happen during humanitarian crises and disasters that can aggravate the risks of experiencing Gender-Based Violence. These include increased militarization, lack of measures in place, inadequate community and state protection during wars, displacement, scarcity of essential resources and services, disruption of community services, changes in cultural and gender norms, ascriptions disrupted relationships, and weakened infrastructure. This training seeks to look at world-accepted best practices in dealing with gender-based violence pulling from experiences of world-recognized organizations like USAID. Primero, International Rescue Committee, International Medical Corps, UHCR, UNFPA, Unicef.
