Introduction to Monitoring and Evaluation of Development Projects (Virtual and Onsite)

Introduction

Many development and humanitarian organizations have prioritized monitoring and evaluation (M&E). In recent years, advances in assessment methods, metrics, goals, performance management, and managing for outcomes (impact) have been made to accurately and efficiently assess progress and program effects. M&E is essential for designing relevant, efficient, and observable programs and initiatives and monitoring and evaluating the impact of particular activities within target populations on a consistent and effective basis.

Monitoring and evaluation is a concept and practice through which organizations evaluate where they are, where they are going, how they will get there, and basically what needs to be done to achieve preset objectives. The practice enables organizations to understand what they need to do, ultimately understand if they achieved the same, and if they didn’t, evaluate what could have been done to improve the results of rolled-out projects.

This five-day training serves as a guide and introduction to development practitioners, primarily those involved continuously in project implementation, on how to monitor and evaluate projects and programmes in an effort to achieve objectives and also help beneficiary communities in improving their livelihoods.

Cost

The individual cost for the onsite training workshop is USD 850 for individual participants and USD 650 for groups above 10 participants, exclusive of 16% VAT.  Participants attending the onsite training will be responsible for their travel expenses and arrangements, such as airport transfers (and visa application, where necessary), food and accommodation, health/accident insurance, and other personal expenses. The Virtual Cost of the training is USD 700 for individual participants and USD 600 for groups above 10 participants, exclusive of 16% VAT. This covers the training fee, resource materials, and conference package.

Intended Attendees

This course is meant to increase the monitoring end evaluation knowledge of anyone entering the project management, monitoring and evaluation field, field officers, and project officers, and at the same time, increase the knowledge of project managers, government officials, CBO operatives, NGO employees, UN Staff and anyone involved in project management activities.

Aim

This course aims to broaden and deepen the understanding of monitoring and evaluation of projects focused on poverty alleviation, food security, gender equality and equity, reducing vulnerability, and the design of safe cities and communities all over the globe.

Objectives of the training

• Monitor programme inputs, processes, and results required for management development programs performance

• Identify ways to overcome barriers to conducting effective development programmes monitoring.
• Select appropriate indicators for measuring development program outputs and outcomes.
• Conduct development programmes monitoring using appropriate methods and tools.

• Communicate findings to stimulate learning and reflection.
