Participatory Assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation of Humanitarian Projects Training (Virtual and Onsite)

Introduction

Studies show that increased monitoring and evaluation participation by beneficiary community partners and other key project stakeholders improves their understanding of the development process. Increased monitoring and evaluation capability promotes project self-sufficiency, assures the long-term viability of project activities, and leads to improved project outcomes. Enhancing project design and implementing more responsive to ground realities requires listening to and learning from program/project beneficiaries and other stakeholders.

Participation has become a critical component in development. In assessing needs, governments, international donors, implementing agencies, and NGOs insist on participatory approaches to assess community needs and project implementation strategies. An increased emphasis on the importance of participation in development has brought forth the need for a participatory-based monitoring and evaluation approach for community-based initiatives, projects, and social development projects.

Actors in participatory assessment, monitoring, and evaluation (PAM&E) collaborate to measure, record, gather and evaluate communication data for use in problem-solving and decision-making. As a result, project partners can identify remedial actions early in the project’s development.

Cost

The individual cost for the onsite training workshop is USD 750 for individual participants and USD 550 for attending the training virtually, exclusive of 16% VAT.  Participants attending the onsite training will be responsible for their travel expenses and arrangements, such as airport transfers (and visa application, where necessary), food and accommodation, health/accident insurance, and other personal expenses.

Intended Attendees

This training is intended for project management practitioners, monitoring and evaluation officers and managers, and direct service providers to apply a participatory methods approach for community-based stakeholders during project implementation and management.

Aim

The training aims to introduce participants to participatory assessment, monitoring, and evaluation with a specific inclination to humanitarian and social development projects. The training seeks to broaden participants’ understanding of the importance of community involvement in the entire project cycle and the accruing benefits of this as compared to conventional monitoring and evaluation of projects.

Objectives of the training

By the end of the training, participants should be able to do the following tasks:

• Define these terms: participatory, participatory appraisal, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Differentiate between conventional M&E and participatory M&E
• Understand indicators and their selection in PAM&E
• Use a simple M&E model to describe program progress.
• Describe the role of participation in PAM&E.
• Conduct participatory monitoring and evaluation

Entry requirements

This course has beginners and advanced modules, and SDSL will advise individuals appropriately after reviewing their applications.

Post-training mentorship

All graduates of SDS are provided with dedicated coaches to accompany them after completion of the training, including receiving recent and relevant journals, research, and benchmarking practices on topical issues in respective disciplines.
